As much as she loved the place, it was really starting to get boring. Nobody talked actively of the outside world whether they had ever left this misty city or not, which was part of the problem. Nobody really had any stories, and any that did were far from willing to share, at least to her, in all of her experiences. A prime example is Kaiade's parents, who fled to this place initially. She always wanted to hear about their home, maybe even see it, but her parents insisted to no avail.
She was too naive to see how people couldn't be accepting of benders, since she lived in a whole community full of them. She couldn't fathom the concept of how someone could be different from the average city folk here in such a way that she would be mistreated just because of her gifted ability to control the ebb and flow of water. Was it really that big of a deal? She had to see for herself, and there was no way she would be refused any longer. She was sixteen, strong, capable, and as far as she was concerned incredibly independent. Maybe that last one was just her ego, but it wasn't entirely false.
Currently, she sat around toward the outskirts of town with minimal supplies and a terrible sinking in her heart. She was leaned against a fence and playing with a small puddle of water she made to ease her tension. She wouldn't admit it, but the anxiety felt from actually stepping out of the city and traveling by herself was far more intimidating than she expected. Even if just one other person was there, things would be better. She would never properly justify it, but she needed someone. If someone came along, she would properly splash them a little with her water, in hopes she would get their attention and they might ask what she was doing. She would never ask someone to help her out, but it was possible to get them to offer it maybe.
