About You!
Personality: From as early as Asti can remember, she's never been afraid to ask 'why?' and is always one to question everything that surrounds her. Of course, being an inquisitive young Water Bender is not without its share of troubles, and despite her need to explore and understand everything, what she learns doesn't necessarily always sink in the right way. She's not stupid, but she is one to jump to conclusions, especially regarding new people, and is stubborn in the views that she olds, be them right or wrong. This, as a result, often leads to a skew or a blur between good and evil, or right and wrong.
Asti wears her attitude on her face. That doesn't necessarily mean that it's always a bad one, but her emotions are incredibly easy to read. Whilst she's capable of her happy moments, many people will make reference to her 'resting bitch face' as a negative symbol that she is perpetually in a terrible mood. This is, in fact, far from the case. Her personality is like water, at rest it is placid, ripples can be seen on the surface in reaction to its surroundings, however it boils as easily as it cools.
Likes: Waterbending, the company of others and flavoured teas are Asti's greatest loves in life. If neither existed for her then she may just struggle to breathe the air itself. She often enjoys hosting company for tea parties, a chance to get to know people further and on occassion, should these people be trusted, she will incorporate water bending into the ceremony.
Dislikes: Betrayal or being treated like a child. She's not so blind that she doesn't realise her own hasty nature or childlike inquisitiveness, but are they really such negatives that people should feel the need to belittle her for them? Asti see's herself as far more observant than she lets on, and although she may tend to ask the same question twice, that's only because the answer often differs depending on the person who provides the answer.
History: For such a bright child, Asti certainly enjoyed the night that swallowed Pukkuksong Guk-ga. She would spend hours away from home, something her parents never really questioned due to the safety of the area in which they lived, but was rarely one to be late for supper, partly due to the stricter nature of her father. Her household was very old fashioned, her mother cooked the meals that her father earned. The family were never hard done by. Well, why should they be, when the head of the household is a powerful political figure? But within the house it was a 50/50 contribution, so when Asti was late for the meal that her mother had worked hard to cook for her, it did not go unnoticed. Should she be late, it would only ever be by 5, maybe 10 minutes. Even so, her father would greet her unruly return with a scowl, a mild scolding and they would all sit for a meal as though nothing were ever wrong.
It was a typical routine that lasted right up until her tenth birthday, before slowly petering to nothing, like a phase that somebody grows out of. At least from the outside that's how it was meant to appear. The end began one evening when Asti was running particularly late. Dinner was served and her father was pacing to the repetative coaxing of her mother trying to calm him. 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes. Out of patience, he soon left to look for her. One could call it a hunt, in fact, as he knew exactly where to look. In no time at all, he reached the dock closest to the familial home, and as expected, there he found Asti, dancing on the water with her friends as though it were the most natural thing in the world.
Any normal, non-bending father would be surprised, aghast at what he had discovered. Instead, he leans forward, and in a single, strong pull, he draws the very water they're standing on towards the docks concrete surface. Some of the children lost their focus, quickly sinking into the water as it pulled neighbouring boats along with it. But Asti remained upright, and for the first time, a defiant scowl dragged on her face to match his own. Ignoring the other children, he pools the water on which she stands into a river that lifts her to the docks in front of him, gently placing her in a puddle of water at his own feet. And there they stood for a minute or so. He understood her defiance. Why should they have to hide their water-bending to the penumbra shadows of the docks? She didn't understand the implications that being an element bender had.
For days this new habit continued. Asti would push her luck, trying to stay out later and later. Before, during her excursions she explained how her friends and herself would change location so as not to be found out, however over time she began to question the necessity behind it. What was so shameful about having power? The days continued on for maybe two weeks after this, as the sting of her and her friends constant defiance became too much to bear for her father. He had tried explaining what should happen if she were caught, not just what it would mean for her and her friends, but how it would affect her family, or his political career.
Finally one evening, as Asti played with the waters between the boats and, as planned, her father turned up to take her home. This time though, she was ready to fight back. This time she would raise her voice for a change.
'This time...' she thought, as water constricted her arms to her sides and she was forcefully pulled to dry land.
'I'll stand my ground?' She began to question her conviction as her father picked her up quickly and jumped to the shadows between the warehouses not far by, a hand covering her mouth before she had a chance to retort. No sooner had he reached the darkness did men and women in familiar gear appear on the scene, electric rods in hand. Asti had seen them before, but never with such animosity, an Equalist branch. Without flinching, they held their rods to the water, as electricity stretched out like demented fingers across its surface and knocking out all of her friends before they even knew what was happening. Asti followed her father home in absolute silence and was left unknowing of what happened to her friends.
Surprisingly, he was very open in his responses to her, but to no-one else. As the families of her friends came knocking at their doors asking what happened, they were waved away with false sympathies. To Asti's own face, he was incredibly forthcoming. How it was he who had alerted the Equalists to their water bending, the positive outlook it shone on his own political position (as no-one within his constituency knew he was a bender). Everything he did was to protect his family, but Asti couldn't forgive his suddenly heavy hand. After a number of tense years, she left her home, and vowed to stop what happened to her friends from ever happening again. The lesson she had learned was skewed, but for now she understood that elemental bending was to be hidden within certain borders. Even her own father had cow-towed to this ideal, but no number of benders at this stage were strong enough to create a new equality.
She lives day to day without ever having had the need to work, her fathers bank card made allowances for that. She spends most of her time divided by mixing teas in her home or lecturing children much like herself in the dangers of using their bending abilities where they can easily be seen.
