| Ah, sunny days. The glorious enjoyment of a warm star a few hundred million miles away shining warmly on your skin; making the world feel just a bit better for a little while. Winter was not the best time for Firebenders; the city was high in the mountains and it was routinely freezing cold for long stretches of time, which made his people supremely uncomfortable. Oh, it was easy enough to keep warm, what with their inner fire and all; but that didn't make it any more fun. No, a sunny day with a strong, bright sun was a godsend. It made the cold wind coming off the lake easier to bare while at work, and now that he was off, he could escape to the sheltered inner areas of the city. Namely, one of the larger parks that came with it's own pond. A fairly deep pond at that, connected by little man-made streams to a series of other ponds that made a little river winding through the greenery and trees. It was a place he spent a lot of time at, mostly due to his rather strange pet. Isaki, one of the rare ahuizotl that hunted the rivers and lakes of the lowland mist forests; far outside of their mountain valley home. His oldest, and really only friend; a gift from his grandfather, whom rescued the beast as a cub when it was caught and injured in his fishing nets.
At the moment, said beast was fully grown and stalking his lunch in the deepest of the ponds; Haru would bring him here to swim and exercise and let him 'hunt' for the fish that lived in the water. It kept the great beast happy and calm, since living on land for long periods of time was not normal for them. Haru's little house was too small to have any sort of yard, nor was it near any of the water systems of the city; so this park was his best solution, baring risking taking Isaki down to the docks and trusting him not to cause a problem with the fisherman and sailors there. Not that he would on purpose, Isaki was fully tamed and quiet happy to be left alone and no bother anyone; but waterbenders and sailors in general tend to be a superstitious type, and Isaki was definitely not something that they would let hang around without causing a stir. It was hard enough for his grandfather to save him as a cub, his crew had begged to be allowed to burn it alive; they claimed it was evil and that they had to burn it before it could 'curse them and their families for three generations', or some insanity like that. His own family wasn't too happy, but as he didn't see them often, it wasn't much of an issue.
"Isaki! Where'd you get, boy?" He'd realized he was lost in thought and had lost track of the ahuizotl. Not smart, as the park, while not crowded, was populated by families with small children and such that would easily spook. He really didn't want the authorities called over Isaki. Not fun. It was a mild relief for him when the beast appeared in the center of the lake; head rising from the water and jaws clamped tight around a pretty good sized river carp. Good eating, those carp; and a favorite of Isaki. "You gunna eat that, or play with it?" Isaki's tail appeared, the strange hand-like appendage at the tip used to grab the fish from his mouth so he could release a sound that would haunt the nightmares of anyone that wasn't used to it; a mix of a bark, chirp, and demonic roar. A pretty normal and content sound for the beast, honestly. He was happy to get some exercise and to have his favorite fish for lunch, what else could he ask for. Quickly moving through the water, Isaki climbed up onto the shore and made his way to where Haru was standing, laying down at his feet when he reached the boy and digging into his lunch right then and there. "Right then. Guess we're here for a bit longer. Awesome." Well, he could get into the idea of sitting in the sun for a bit; and he did just that; backing a few paces away so that he was outside of the drip and pool range of the water falling from Isaki's fur.
Ah... sunny days. They felt so damn good.

| "Drill Bit, come back!" Ace called out to her pet as the fire ferret tore away. She gave chase, weaving around people and potted plants lining the streets. Muttering excuse me's and sorry's to passerby's, Ace's boots thumped against the street. She was in hot pursuit. One street turned into the next and soon, the roads opened into a large courtyard, leading right to the park. Good, with some open space, maybe Ace could use bending to give herself an advantage in the chase. The ferret dove into a bush, Ace finally slowing to a stop. Gasping for breath, she stuck her hand between the thin, tightly woven branches. Her hand just brushed past fur when Drill Bit shot out of the opposite side. Ace let out an exasperated sigh and continued the chase. Suddenly, she pulled up short. The pesky critter was sitting on a boy's chest, and laying next to the boy was the largest animal she had ever seen. | |

| Why was there a ferret on his chest? Why was he on the ground, at that? One minute he's avoiding getting soaked by his otter's dripping fur, the next he's got a strange gabbering weasel trying to hide in his shirt. Well, his day was certainly turning strange. Isaki was instantly curious, shifting to move his nose close to the little animal and reaching to poke at it with his rather human-like paw. "Isaki, it's not food. Don't hurt it. Speaking of it, calm down little thing. You can't hide in my chest."
Haru grabbed for the ferret, managing an awkward grip around it's torso and fighting to pry it off his body; moving to sit up once it was off his chest. "Oookay, now then; where did you come fro-..." Oh, there was someone standing there; likely the owner of the scampering bugger. "Your's, I take it?" He was holding the ferret out away from his body, watching it squirm and try to free itself from his firm, but not hard, grasp.

| Ace hurried forward, scooping up her indignant pet. "Yeah sorry about that. Drill Bit here kinda got away from me." The ferret let out a little chirp in protest, slipping up her arm to perch on her shoulder. She extended her hand to help him off the ground. Her little guy was stronger than he looked; he probably bowled the boy over. "The name's Ace, and I must say that's a pretty impressive mount you got there. Ahuizotl, right?" Drill Bit chirped again, probably upset that the creature tried to eat him. Upon closer inspection, the boy noticed the ferret has a little green bandanna tied around his neck. | |

| "They will do that, sometimes; Isaki used to try and run off when he was a cub fairly often. Although, that was more because he was still fairly wild and people tried to kill him as a trophy than anything. Waterbenders are a superstitious lot, and working with them makes for some.... interesting moments when you have a strange water beast as a best friend." Haru moved to stand up, giving up on trying to stay dry now that Isaki had basically dripped all over him in his curious inspection of the smaller creature. Shifting to just lean against the giant, "You might wanna consider a whistle or a leash if he keeps escaping like that. Don't wanna see him get hurt from exploring to far away or something." | |

| Ace nodded, taking a glance at Isaki. "Yeah, I'm sure having a creature like that can get really....out of hand sometimes." She waited for his reaction, nudging him a little in the ribs. Then she laughed to herself, Drill Bit chattering along with her. Yawning, she flopped down into the warm grass. "Now that you mention it, a whistle doesn't sound like a bad idea. I'll build one when I get back to the shop." Laying her head on her arms, she blinked up at him. "Hey, I didn't exactly catch your name." | |

| "Haru. The giant otter is Isaki." The firebender was running out of things to talk about,a bad habit of his. He was never s great conversationalist when conversation randomly found him; he spent too much of his time withdrawn from the world and only allowing a mask to show; leaving him horrible at reading other people in a way that would allow him to spark a lengthy chat. Well, unless someone started talking about fishing or something that he knew well; then he could go for hours over the details and such; but that was neither here nor there.
"He's better behaved than people give him credit for; or he is now anyway. You own a shop? Or work for one, at least." Awkward conversation is awkward.

| "Well pleased to meet you Isaki." She smiles up at the large creature. She rocked back and forth on her heels, running out of things to talk about herself. Come on, Ace, think of something. A smile spreads across her face as the boy talks again. Now there's something she could talk about. "Oh yes, I work in a shop. My main one is in Pukkuksong Guk-ga, but there's also one here. My dad owns both of them. He's a very skilled mechanic and taught me everything he knows." She smiles, reaching into her pocket to pull out a small mechanical device. "I made this myself. It's a music box." She turns a crank on the side and it produces a low, simple tune. Flipping it around and over to turn more cranks, the box produces a low, almost melancholy song.
When the song is finished, she gives a small bow. "So what about you? What do you do in your spare time?"

| Huh, international businessman; a rarity for benders recently. Outside of the fisherman and traders, anyway. "Fisherman, sort of. My grandfather was one, and I pick up work down on the docks, either transferring the catch from ship to dock, or processing them once they're on land. Nothing crazy special. I can't swim, sadly; so no captain will hire me to go out, too much of a liability and all that. But I have Isaki, so I never really have to worry about drowning so long as he's nearby; and he's never very far away."
He gave the music box a minute to play, enjoying the strange music it made. "I've never heard that tune before. It's interesting."

| She smiled. "Wow that sounds really cool. I haven't really had time to go fishing with the business and all. I used to go fishing with my dad when I was a little girl though." Her hands moved on their own as she cranked the handles. "I miss it." The tune came to an end and her trance ended. Her green eyes blinked up up at Haru, Drill Bit slipping around her shoulders like a moving, furry scarf. She held out the music box, taking a small step closer to Haru.
"Do you wanna keep it? It's no trouble really, I can always build another. Easy." One corner of her mouth dropped so she had a wicked grin, like creating a second music box wasn't even a toll on her time. "The tune is a lullaby my mother used to sing to me when I had nightmares as a child. It really kept me calm." Her eyes grew glassy as if she was caught in a memory, but she shook it off. "Would you like to go fishing with me? It's about time I take up the hobby again."

| "Really? Are you sure...?" He did rather like that tune, and he'd never had anything like a special lullaby or anything for himself; his own parents had been too busy fighting over which one of them 'won' in their never ending fight to make him into their perfect idea of a son; even if they could never agree on what it was nor concede any ground to the other. Even when he'd left to live with his grandfather, the closest thing he'd ever had was the waves crashing against the shore or the rocking of the boat.
"If you wanna go fishing, you should wait for after the boats leave. They scare the fish off, but they come back after an hour or so, with the slack tide. It's like clockwork after so long. We could meet up tomorrow morning, when the fish come back into the bay. I can show you a spot that's usually pretty good this time of year."

| "Meeting tomorrow sounds great." She smiled at him, allowing herself to take a step closer. She felt her cheeks grow hot as her heart thudded in her chest. She had to admit, Haru was not bad on the eyes, and he had a cute personality that Ace just naturally leaned towards. Leaning forwards, she placed the music box into his hand, curling his fingers around the item like she insisted he have it. His hands were warm to the touch. Firebender maybe? That would be cool; she always loved to incorporate the firebender's powerful kicks into her earthbending. Maybe he could teach her some techniques after their fishing...date? Could she really allow herself to call it that?
"Let's just hope we don't meet up like last time." She chuckled and gave a pointed look at Drill Bit, who chirped obliviously. "It was great meeting you, Haru. Isaki. Now if you excuse me, I have to go work on making a fire ferret whistle." Giving a slight nod at the both of them, she slowly turned and walked back to the shop, not wanting to break Haru's brilliant blue gaze.
(Hey, how about we just create a new thread for the fishing day?)
