About You!
Personality: Calm and kind outwardly, she is polite to all she meets, even when met with hostility, though inside her anger builds easily. She never lets it out vocally, letting her actions speak for her, even if those actions are used to hurt others, and usually they are. Once angered, she will not strike out in an obvious fashion, but instead set up some kind of trap, or strike when no one will know that she has. Though she may seem stable on the outside, inside her emotions are almost always in turmoil, and only when in desperate situations does this show on the outside.
Likes: She finds many things to her liking, surprisingly, including a good cup of tea, to a field of many colored flowers, and many other things some would consider "girly" or "feminine," but her interests branch from there as well. Despite what she tells others, she loves the thrill of a good fight. She especially loves to fight Benders of any kind, as they pose a greater threat to her, yet there is also the idea of revenge behind every strike against benders. She takes an almost sadistic pleasure against Benders, or anyone else that tries to put her down.
Dislikes: Being an orphan, she hates to see families together, especially ones that are fighting. To her, that is a great insult, for not everyone has the luxury of having a family to argue so freely with. She hates gangs, for to her, they are groups of cowards hiding behind numbers to get their way. What she hates above all else, however, are Benders, and those that would protect them. She does any and all she can to make the lives of benders difficult, but usually from the shadows, whether its scaring them on their way home, to abducting children, nothing is off the table when it comes to these "demons."
History: Growing up in a small no name village within the borders of Tiểu bang Đế chế của miền Nam, the great land of fog and rain, she tended a farm with her parents. They owned a modest plot of land, just enough to grow what they needed, and have some extra to sell at market, or trade with their neighbors. Most within the land were not very happy, but few were angry or depressed by the constant rain and fog, for even without ample sunlight, they managed to grow vegetables and fruits of a unique kind that required little sun. It was the few times she was outside the fog that things were scary, if liberating, for her.
The sun was so bright, and the open sky so wide, she felt she would fall into it if she stared too long. She very seldom had a reason to wander that far from home, usually with her father to a neighboring land or village to sell their unique wares at higher prices. Foreigners always bought strange fruit and vegetables at higher prices for how rare they were. She was allowed to wander the streets during these times, looking at the wares of other merchants, for to her they were the strange ones.
It was during one such visit that her life changed forever. They were returning home after a successful trip to a foreign market, and profitable as well. Her father had told her they would be able to buy some turtle-ducks, which made her happy. They could use the eggs for food, and raise them to eat, but to her, they would be her first pets. A bit ironic, and perhaps cruel, but that was the world they lived in, and they had to do what they could to survive. Unfortunately, not all are content with simple survival.
It was not long after they had entered the fogs of their land, they were ambushed. First, the earth rose up as walls around them, with the only way out was up, and their ox could not escape if it wanted to. She was confused, afraid, and panicking, calling to her father, but he knew what was going on. He went to her before the Benders showed themselves, and told her only a few things before he was taken from her forever. "Otori, be strong, be brave, and don't give in to these demons. I love -" It was then he was whisked away by another bender, a water bender from the water whip that grabbed him and took him out, as he called out to his daughter that he loved her.
She, of course, was still afraid, and was taken captive, but her horror did not end there. They soon found her village, through her weakness she believed, for it was her who told them about it, under torture. She had tried to be strong as her father had bade her, but she could not hold, and she believed that it was her weakness that damned all she knew. Never again did the lands of Tiểu bang Đế chế của miền Nam hear from this small village again, for those two benders alone were enough to wipe it off any and all maps, as well as all who resided within.
Though a prisoner she remained, she was not alone, for those two had saved only a few of the females, the young pretty ones, for their personal use. They remained their slaves, but only for a few weeks. Otori and the others were woken one night as a great commotion began, started by the earth bender, and she watched as he was felled not by another bender, but by a person who did not use bending. A normal person! Nothing but their hands and body, and they felled this demon of stone.
It was the Water Bender that this man had trouble with, but Otori had chosen that time to be brave. Though none were caged, they were tied up. She hopped the best she could, and managed to get a dinner knife from one of the benders packs, and snuck up on him as quietly as she could. She held it up, and the man battling the water bender saw her, and rushed him, trying to get him to back up, and it worked. He backed up right into the knife, piercing through his back, and into his chest. That would have been well enough to end him, but the man came and hit his chest in a few select places, and the bender frozw, for only a few moments, before going limp, Otori falling with him.
She had been frozen as well, but not by the same thing. She was free, and quickly cut free by the man, as was the other two girls. The man escorted them to the nearest town, and gave each of them some coin to start their lives over, bidding them well in life, but Otori was not to walk away. She followed, and began to beseech the man, begging him to take her, and to teach her his ways. He initially refused, believing her to only wish it to exact revenge, but he eventually relented, as she had no where to go, no one to call friend or family, and he knew she would ultimately end up dead at the end of someones weapon, whether that weapon be forged of fire and steel or of spirit and element.
He took her under his tutelage for a great amount of time, teaching her the basics, and eventually set her off, to learn on her own through experience and, he hoped, to find the peace she so desperately needed.
